Parking Garage De Klanderij

Urban Corners | Lifestyle & Culture

Opened in March 2011, Parkeergarage de Klanderij was once just a boring piece of concrete, but those times have changed. With the help of the creative street art organisation “Writer’s Block”, Leeuwarden revived its colours. After organising their own mural street art festival, 40 artists from all around the world gathered to transform this ordinary looking parking garage to a colourful masterpiece.

Adress: Posthoornsteeg 40

Opening Times: Mon – Sat: 7AM – 7PM last Sunday of the month: 10AM – 6AM

Pricing: free by foot, rates for parking apply

Atmosphere: urban, city-vibe

An ambitious project to redecorate Leeuwarden, funded by the EFRO (European Fund for Regional Development), made this dull parking garage into what is now an urban spot with beautiful street art pieces for everyone to admire. With the help of famous international graffiti artists such as Diamond, Bozko and Pinwin, the parking space was brought back to life by renovating it from top to bottom with eye-pleasing murals and colourful graffiti.

As for its location, parking garage De Klanderij only requires a five minute walk over or around the canal which separates it from the city centre. Getting there from the train station only takes around seven minutes by foot or 3 three minutes by bike. Being so close to the city centre makes it a very accessible Urban Corner with plenty of other activities located next to it. However, if its location is not enough to intrigue you into visiting it, then the breath-taking rooftop view over the city, will. This definitely makes an urban location worth checking out!
