Brief
‘Gruen’ is an Australian television program about advertising that has been on air since 2008 and is now in its 15th season. The program is presented by Wil Anderson (a comedian) and he is accompanied by a panel of four experts from the advertising industry. NPO1 (The Netherlands biggest broadcaster) has bought the format for the Dutch region. For our prime time broadcasts we want young creatives to make several 30 second advertisements that will be an integral part of our show!
Introduction NPO
The NPO or Dutch Public Broadcasting is The Netherlands’ largest broadcaster. NPO is a connecting factor in our multi-colored society. We are a beacon of reliable information. A source of knowledge, culture and relaxation. With programs that surprise you, stimulate you and broaden your perspective. In this way we contribute to a vibrant culture, a sense of belonging and a richer life for everyone.
Introduction Monday Media
Monday Media Netherlands is a creative, ambitious and innovative content producer. We produce high quality shows for linear television channels and on-demand platforms, for public broadcasters and commercial networks. Monday Media will make this program for the NPO, and this format includes a popular component called The Pitch. Two novice teams of advertisers (Jonge Honden) receive a briefing to create a commercial of no longer than 30 seconds.
Content Deliverables & Creative Freedom
Everything is possible and free. As long as you stick to the briefing!
The briefings for the show are meant to be fun. The below examples are from Australia but slightly adapted for The Netherlands. Such as:
- There is a rat plague in Amsterdam, convince us to eat rat meat.
- Make the plastic bag popular again!
- Make Dutch people enthusiastic about reintroducing child labor.
- Convince us that it is the right thing to invade Germany.
- Discourage tourists from coming to the Netherlands!
- Convince parents that plastic surgery for children under 10 is good.
- Make a commercial for the parent proof (to have children)
- Drinking under the age of 16 should become legal
In addition to producing these short commercials we want you to build your own advertising agency to continue this project for several seasons. This way students can become part of your advertising agency in the future, which you have built!
AIM
Make 10 creative commercials for prime-time broadcast. These commercials are shown in their entirety in the program, with a brief explanation from the makers on screen (with name) and then briefly discussed in the program. The advertisers in the studio decide which of the two teams has won the pitch. The winner will receive a trophy. And recognition, of course! In Australia, advertisers record a more extensive review (outside the broadcast), filmed, and send it to the makers. We also plan to do this, and we may also put it online.
Guidelines And Boundaries

Your ideas must be unique, funny, and of high production quality.
