From: Creative Business Profiles / Fast Track

Brief

The coming weeks you – together with your team – will be part of a unique Creative & Production Unit where you develop and produce a live broadcast show named Thank God Its Friday. You will produce and broadcast this show live to a large international audience on MATTERS.frl – a digital content platform FOR and BY students.

About Matters

We are MATTERS – a digital platform made for and by students in cooperation with Creative Business. What do we do? Well, to put it simply: Create content that really MATTERS to you! With over 50 formats and 450 episodes ranging from dating shows to cultural podcasts, we aim to engage students from all over the world. Matters has its roots in Leeuwarden – the capital of the Dutch province of Fryslân – and focuses on an ever-expanding international audience. We tell stories about topics that really concern us – through podcasts, videos, short films, games, and blogs. At Matters want to win our audience’s hearts through engaging content. We offer stories you cannot get anywhere else – FOR and BY students. Matters provides a real, analytical student’s perspective by discussing social themes important to you! Making all our content both entertaining and meaningful.

About Thank God Its Friday (TGIF)

Thank God Its Friday (TGIF) is the ultimate student talk show that promises an electrifying blend of entertainment, humor, and spontaneity. Broadcasting exclusively on the Matters streaming platform, this bi-monthly program is designed to be a bold and casual platform where NHL Stenden students can kick back, relax, and have a blast. Two hosts, many surprising guests, and the promise to never take things too seriously.

AIM

You are responsible for the entire production, broadcast, and marketing of TGIF. This means contributing to the editorial team, studio production itself, and the marketing. You will research and create input for all format beats and have a leading role in the production of the live show.

Audience

The promise we make to our visitors is the chance to be a part of and witness different cultures, local business, student life, sustainability, and all things NHLStenden-related. We focus on meaningful content about social themes that are important to you. With this creative brief we are looking to target a mainstream audience (with a minor focus on 18-24y/o – university age people). The stories we tell should interest a wider audience but remain relevant to our young audience – as they are our main target. Students are important influencers for Matters. Our audience loves discovering what’s new in culture (art, music, and design), sustainability and (student) lifestyle. They are adventurous and open, always placing themselves in new situations. Our audience members are king and queen in determining whether something is worthy of their time if it comes to online content. Online streaming is their go-to source for content. You will also execute your own audience insights to get a better understanding of our target audience.

Content Deliverables

  • 6 LIVE EPISODES 20-30” + SPECIAL 30” (Option for extension)
  • Short form content for marketing purposes
  • Multiple pre-recorded video instarts (ENG and studio-based) that you develop yourself. For inspiration see earlier student-pitched segments like:
    • NHL Stenden Confessions
Returning one of the spiciest Stenden Trends and turning it into an entertaining feature on our program this time students send their cringy and spicy confessions and teachers get to read them and react live to them for the first time. On stage.
    • VOX-POPs
We take the NHL Stenden mic, and we go around campus asking students, staff, and faculty the most important questions.
    • The Sit Down
Interview segment with one guest per episode including games. Could be a student pitching a new idea for a show / short film, or someone advertising a personal project. Could be an interview with a teacher, expert, or with a special guest from off campus.

Creative Freedom

It is important to us that our creatives feel they have as much creative freedom as possible. We want your concepts to be unique, meaningful, and engaging without limiting your creativity. We do need to consider that MATTERS.frl is commissioned by the Creative Business program, so certain ‘promotional activities’ are not allowed.

Guidelines and Boundaries

You may choose the type of content (video, podcast, blogs, games, short films, etc.) you want to produce yourself. Any type will do as long as we are able be embedded in the TGIF broadcast and as stand-alone short-form content on MATTERS.frl. Keep in mind that all content should be meaningful. For inspiration we ask of you to stay on top of what is happening in society today, what will be the ‘next big thing,’ what is relevant in the media, what are interesting trends to follow.

Your ideas must be unique. Also, make sure you know what content is currently available on our digital platform and give us refreshing new content ideas to push MATTERS.frl to the next level.

GOOD LUCK!
